HISTORY
Ever since he could remember, Jaejoong's dream was to become a singer. Raised by a single mother after his father abandoned them shortly after his birth, he worked odd jobs to help support the family, while at the same time studying music on his own and chasing his dream. When Jaejoong was nineteen, his hard work paid off, and he was scouted by an agent who signed him to a major label.
Just one month later, Jaejoong's mother died in a car accident. In order to cope with her death, he threw all of his grief and anger into making his first album, pouring his emotions into the music. The debut album was a hit, and Jaejoong became an overnight sensation at age twenty. Over the next few years, his fame and popularity spread, and he also broke into the Japanese market with similar great success.
Late one night, when he was walking from the recording studio back to his car, a blow struck him from behind. After he regained consciousness, Jaejoong discovered that he had been kidnapped by a woman, a fan who claimed to have fallen in love with him ever since she heard his first album. She was particularly moved, she told him, by the music video that featured him falling in love with a woman who is actually a vampire and becoming a vampire himself in order to spend eternity with her. She told him that she was actually a vampire, and that she was going to turn him into one also, just like in his music video, so that they could be together forever. Jaejoong believed her to be simply crazy all throughout her confession, until she then proceeded to hold him down with a grip of iron, sink her fangs into his neck, and drain his blood.
It took him almost three years to gain enough control over his new form and enough of the woman's trust to be able to escape. His sudden reappearance in the public eye resulted in a media storm, but knowing he could not return to his musical career in his current condition, Jaejoong announced that he would leave the entertainment industry indefinitely, devastating his fans (and also adding to the controversy and speculation already surrounding his disappearance). With Hong Kong's open immigration policy already in effect, he packed his things and left his home in Seoul to move there, finding himself alone in a new city and uncertain about the future.
PERSONALITY
Before he became a vampire, Jaejoong could be described as free-spirited but dependable. Having grown up in a single-parent household, he was forced to mature sooner and shoulder more responsibility than most of his peers, but also enjoyed more freedom and lack of parental supervision, resulting in an easygoing but strong personality that gained him many friends and not a few admirers, even before his fame. His mother's death and subsequent rise to stardom strengthened these qualities further, granting him greater character, confidence, and charisma.
Now that he has been turned, however, Jaejoong is a shadow of his former self. The combination of three years in captivity, the loss of his musician's dream, and being forced to accept that he is now one of the undead has traumatized him, leaving him mostly bitter, distrustful, fearful, and angry. Despite this, a part of his strength still remains, fueling his determination to survive.
ABILITY
Invisibility: the power to render oneself unseen to the naked eye.
- Well-fed, he can sustain perfect invisibility for himself for a maximum of 5 continuous hours. Once this maximum has been reached, flickers and glimpses of him are able to be seen for progressively longer and longer instances, until he becomes completely visible. He also requires feeding after reaching this limit.
- Once he has been invisible for an extended period of time, more active concentration is required for him to maintain his invisibility; the closer he gets to his 5-hour limit, the greater concentration is required. This can sometimes also make it more difficult for him to divide his attention between staying invisible and performing other activities, especially ones that also necessitate a high degree of concentration.
- With greater effort, he can make invisible objects or people that are in physical contact with him up to a total mass of approximately 184 kilograms (about 400 pounds). These objects and people become visible upon loss of physical contact, and he cannot make them invisible without being invisible himself. Furthermore, making other objects and people invisible shortens the length of time that he is able to sustain the invisibility; the greater the combined mass, the shorter the duration. Roughly speaking, for every 46 kilograms (100 pounds) outside of his own mass, he loses an hour of time. This means that he can maintain invisibility for maximum mass for one hour. Individuals who are made invisible by him are also not visible to each other or to him.
- Objects and individuals must be physically tangible for him to make them invisible. For example, he can make a flashlight invisible, but he cannot make the light coming from a flashlight invisible.
- He cannot control his invisibility to conceal only part of his body.
- He cannot control his invisibility to select to whom he appears and to whom he does not appear.
- He can still be detected by senses or methods that don't depend on vision, such as smell, hearing, touch, thermal imaging, echolocation, telepathy, etc.
- Rain and other liquids, solids, fire, etc. that touch him will give away his presence.
- Because he is a newborn vampire and has only recently discovered his power of invisibility, he actually does yet not know much of the information outlined above himself. Currently, he is able to maintain complete invisibility for about 30 minutes before his control starts to slip. He also needs to be concentrating strongly on staying invisible and virtually cannot multitask at all aside from some basic functions (e.g., walking, simple speech, etc.). Performing more complicated tasks severely impairs his ability to remain invisible (running would cause him to flicker constantly in and out of sight, for example). The most additional mass other than his own that he has been able to turn invisible has been about 4 kilograms (8.6 pounds, or approximately the weight of a gallon of milk), and he was only able to sustain the invisibility for about 10 minutes.
